Siebel Installations >  Install Siebel Tools, Sample Database and Developer Web Client - Part 1

This article will describe the installation of these software in Windows Vista.
These can be installed in a local computer and they are enough to
do self study or make small projects.

The sequence of installing these products are like this
1. Web Developer Client
2. Sample Database
3. Siebel Tools

First we need to change some settings in Internet Explorer. This is necesary at two stages.
First, during the installation, the installer will open up the browser and download and
install some software. For this it needs administrator rights. You will need these settings
later when you run Siebel in the Web Developer client.

In my case, I had set Firefox as the default web browser. And during the installation,
Firefox was opened instead of IE! Happily , there were no errors.

Open IE, select Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites
Add http://localhost to these sites and set the security low

Uncheck 'Require server verification (https) for all sites in this zone'

Go to the installation folder and then select the oui.exe file

Right click on oui.exe and after that select
'Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service pack 2'

Notice that I cannot select 'Run this program as Administrator'. This is because I am logged in as
Administrator. If you are not logged in as Administrator, make sure you chek this as well.
You will need administrator rights during the installation.

Left click on oui.exe

Select 'Next'

Accept the installation folders or change them.
Select 'Next'

At this point, you can get warnings and that is ok to proceed. If there are errors, the installation
will not work. I got some errors first time I ran this on another machine. This was because I
had not selected 'Run this program in compatibility mode' option.

Slect language and click on 'Next'

One interesting point here is that the remote client and web developer client are similar tools.
Select Web Developer clinet and press 'Next'

We could click anything here, since we are only going to use a sample database.
Select database and click 'Next'

Remember what you typed here and click 'Next'

Siebel filesystem can take up some space, select some other drive if you are short of space.

Click 'Next'

Port 2048 is the default port used, keep it like that unless you know what you are doing or unless this
port is in use.

You are done. In the next two articles, I will descibe how to install Sample Database and Tools.
